Throbbing Booties and Quivering Muscles

Last night was our “Last Chance Workout” and weekly Weigh-In at Nubody’s in Dieppe. While we were driving to the gym I was telling Steph that I felt like I was forgetting something, but couldn’t pinpoint what exactly. As soon as Nubody’s came into sight, I started to get nervous and my heart rate monitor started going up. Oh! That’s what I had forgotten: Nervousness! hehe. Maybe by the time this challenge is over I won’t feel nervous at all.

We started things off with the warm up from Hell. I think the trainers had momentarily forgotten that we’re fat, when they kicked off the warm up with jogging, mountain climbers and jumping jacks! Oh and let’s not forget those crazy skiing-punching exercises! When the trainers are beet red and sweaty themselves during the warm up… Just kidding; It was hard as heck and I can’t even do real mountain climbers (if you don’t know what those are click here to see a video.) because my belly is in the way.  But now I know what to practice on at home. :) We then divided into 3 teams of 10 and rotated between the three workout rooms : Strenght Training Circuit, Spinning Class, and Lower Body Workout. I LOVE this format! Since we know that we’ll be changing workouts in 20 minutes we’re more inclined to give it our all. Although we didn’t realize that we had the lower body workout right after the spin class. Ouf!

Resistance Circuit with Fern, Leon and Cute lady trainer with short, brown, angled bob hairdo.. anyone know her name? hehe  : 10 people, 10 stations. Pretty simple, but pretty hard! We were doing 45 seconds at each station, such as dips, crunches, bicep curls, and other exercises that I don’t know what they’re called. Like the one where we lie on the ground and pretend to swim. Or the one where we lift a medicine ball above our heads and back down. The first 20 seconds aren’t that bad, but on some stations, 45 seems like an eternity!

Spinning Class with Neil : I got to try a a real spin bike, in a real spin class, and got to see what it was like! I discovered that I’m nowhere near ready for a full hour spin class! But that 20 minutes of spinning with a group sharing about the same level of fitness is awesome! I think that for a lot of us, our butts had to be re-acquainted with bike seats. Ow! Our butts were almost more painful as our thighs and calves! It was a really awesome workout though.

Lower Body Workout with Andre : If our thighs weren’t completely dead from the spin cycle, this workout sure finished them! We did sets of lunges, static squats, squat pulses, side kicks… Steph showed off with some Kung Fu fighting :P When Andre told us that we had to do another rep of everything, we could hear some loud grunts hehe. But it was well worth it. After this workout a few of us went downstairs to use the washrooms before the weigh-in, and my thighs were quivering the whole way down the stairs, I had to make a conscious effort to stay focused on the stairs!

Came back upstairs in time for a cool down and stretches. Aaaah bliss! Then we made our way to the weigh in room and stayed until everyone else had weighed in, so we could see their excited faces as they came out of the little room and announced their number of pounds lost and we all cheered for one another! It was another great workout, and great weigh-in. Here are our results :

Steph lost : 5.5 lbs for a total of 12.5 lbs since the program started!

Nancy lost : 3.5 lbs for a total of 12 lbs since the program started!

  1. Wow you guys are doing great! 12 lbs in two weeks is AWESOME!!! Way to go!

  2. YAY for the progress! That’s terrific.

Yeah, the butt thing really sucks when you’re getting used to spinning. I thought that I’d developed butt callouses or something, because it got better, but my fitness instructor friend said that you actually develop stabilizing muscles that keep you from bouncing on the seat so much.

I hate spinning, but what an awesome workout.
