Run (in the) Forrest, Run!

Does it seem like every time I blog about our workout, I say that this is the best one yet ? (Besides the Goodness, Gracious, Great Thighs of Fire! workout.) Well, I swear, tonight was my favorite workout to date! Our trainers Neil and Andre kicked our butts as always, in an awesome way! There was another bootcamp going on at Centennial park, which Neil’s gorgeous fiancee was taking part in; We joked that their bootcamp was just like ours, but it’s the skinny version hehe.

We kicked things off with a great warm-up. I’m getting better at those lung-n-twist with pointy gun fingers exercise, so that’s good. When we started going those 2 weeks ago I nearly fell over with every twist hehe. We did the usual stuff and were all warmed up. Then, the moment we had all heard about and were all fearing came: The trainers announced that we would be going on a Tempo Run tonight! They immediately appeased our fears by explaining that we would be doing intervals of 30 second of running followed by 60 seconds of recovery/walking, and so on and so forth.

We divided into two groups: Fast & Slow. One trainer per group. Steph and I joined the slow group. We started with a loop around the lake, then we went up the stairs and went in the woods. By the time we were halfway around the lake, Laurie and I were already much further than the slow group. Then we went up the stairs and went in the woods. After a while, Andre just ran up to Laurie and I and told us to keep going at our pace (which was slower than the fast group, and faster than the slow group), and just count the seconds ourselves. So Laurie was the counter, and I want to publicly thank Laurie because it’s only because of her counting and being there, counting on me to run with her that I was able to run for 30 seconds every minute. I think we each fed off each other’s drive and motivation. It was totally awesome! Near the end of the trail, we finally caught up with the fast group!! WOOHOO!! Thanks Laurie! When we were in our last running interval, some of the fast group ran up the hill to meet us, I’ve never felt this much support in my life. I was so proud of myself for running this much!

We all made our way to the basketball courts and started our cool down and soon the rest of the participants joined us. We were extremely fortunate to once again have the black skies open up just for our workout. We witnessed a beautiful sunset on our way back home. All in all, a perfect evening. I couldn’t even imagine a nicer way to spend a Friday evening now… Wow. Seriously. Wow!
